About the event
Online bookings have now closed - However, if you would still like to join simply turn up to our event on the day - Starting at 4:00pm, Saturday 7th December.
Light up a Life offers a space for us to join with others and take part in our Wave of Light candle lighting, which is seen by many as a way of paying tribute to those who have died. Offering an opportunity to find a sense of hope and healing as we reflect on happy memories whilst celebrating those we love who are no longer with us.
Our event is open to all, whether they have had a connection with the hospice or not, helping The Butterfly Hospice to continue to support people living with life-limiting illness and their families.
We invite you to join us for refreshments, from 2:30pm in the Stump coffee shop (all proceeds to The Butterfly Hospice) where we will be offering lots of delightful homemade cakes – an opportunity to meet with our nurses and charity staff, and fostering an atmosphere of togetherness and support - available until 3:30pm, with our remembrance event starts at 4:00pm.
At 4:00pm, our hour-long remembrance event will begin. The highlight of our event will be the "Wave of Light," a poignant moment when we will lower the lights within the church, light our lanterns, and pierce the darkness with countless points of light, each one symbolising the enduring presence of a cherished life.
Lanterns (with candles) can be purchased by donation in the run-up to the service, along with in-memory Christmas decorations (at the event) on which you can add a loved one’s name and hang them on our Christmas tree.
This year we are delighted that the Beonna Choir will sing for us and with us. This addition to our service has special significance as we celebrate a decade of care, one choir member was integral in the initial conversations that led to the fruition of the hospice as we see it today, and another regularly visits and offers complementary therapies to our patients. We hope that their music will not only inspire us into reflective thinking but entertain us as well.
"Light up a Life" is a FREE community event that honours precious memories. Take this opportunity to join us for an afternoon of reflection, music, and refreshments, and help your local hospice continue to provide compassionate care for those facing life-limiting illnesses.
We look forward to seeing old and new friends and to sharing this afternoon of reflection with you.
