The Butterfly Hospice Trust is proud to announce the official opening of the Butterfly Lodge, a brand-new overnight facility created to support families staying close to their loved ones during their time at the Hospice.

The Lodge was formally opened on Thursday 19th February by the Deputy Mayor of Boston, Councillor Patsie Marson, marking a significant milestone for the hospice and the wider community that has helped bring this vision to life.

Located at the Butterfly Hospice’s site on Rowan Way, the Butterfly Lodge has been designed to provide comfort and reassurance at one of the most difficult times a family can face.

When someone is receiving hospice care, families often want to remain nearby. The Butterfly Lodge offers a safe and welcoming space for exactly that reason, somewhere relatives can rest, eat and sleep without having to leave the hospice site.

Available free of charge to families of guests under the hospice’s care, the Lodge helps ensure loved ones can stay close, supported and present when it matters most.

The facility includes:

·         Three private en-suite bedrooms with one being fully adapted for accessibility

·         A shared communal space for families

·         On-site parking

·         24/7 access to the hospice

Every detail has been thoughtfully planned to provide comfort and a homely environment.

The Butterfly Lodge represents years of dedication and collaboration and was only made possible thanks to the generosity of multiple supporters.

Funding was provided by The Butterfly Hospice Trust, Lincolnshire Freemasons, Worth Waynflete and Boston League of Hospital Friends.

Local businesses including Cammacks, Dunelm and Boston Electrical also contributed to internal fittings, helping ensure the Lodge feels warm and welcoming for families.

Built by local firm ST Portess & Son, the Lodge reflects the hospice’s commitment to sustainability and its Green Agenda. The building is fully electric, with no gas supply, reducing environmental impact and removing the need for ongoing boiler servicing.

Working with local contractors also ensures investment remains within the community and supports regional expertise.

Heidi Freeman, CEO of the Butterfly Hospice Trust, described the opening as the culmination of years of hard work and support:

“This is a hugely proud moment for everyone involved. The Butterfly Lodge is now open and ready to make a real difference to families who need to stay close to their loved ones. Knowing they have a comfortable, safe place to rest nearby brings enormous reassurance at what is often a very emotional time. We are incredibly grateful to all the organisations, donors and supporters who helped make this possible.”

Operations Manager Lee Pierce added:

“To see the Butterfly Lodge now open is incredibly rewarding. This facility gives families the chance to stay close, take a break and recharge without leaving the site, which is so important during difficult circumstances. It’s a project everyone involved can be extremely proud of and one that will benefit families for many years to come.”

The opening of the Butterfly Lodge marks an important step forward in the hospice’s mission to provide holistic support, not only to guests, but also to the families who walk alongside them.
